“The Princess and the Unicorn” by Carol Hughes

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rachel @ 8:59 pm

This story  takes place in a world where fairies and unicorns exist! Fairies don’t believe in humans and humans don’t believe in fairies. In one of the fairy colonies lives a young fairy named Joyce. Joyce isn’t your average fairy. Why? She likes flying. One day when Joyce was flying she spotted the unicorn. [Hardly anyone has seen it. The legend says the fairy forest cannot survive without its unicorn.]  Joyce also sees a girl named Eleanor. Eleanor isn’t your average young girl. Why? She’s a princess! Also, the princess saw Joyce. For a human to see a fairy is rare.   Princess Eleanor also sees the unicorn and takes it home with her. It’s up to Joyce to follow the unicorn and bring it back to the forest.

I didn’t enjoy this book very much. I felt like the conflicts were repetitive. Also, I felt like I didn’t know the main characters very well. This book is designed for grades 3-6. I believe they would enjoy it. There were no cuss words. [kudos!]. Some good points are that the author used a lot of details to describe places. But she left enough room for you to imagine what some stuff looked like.
